Southwest Airlines used a good crisis management strategy after an accident by keeping the people being informed and engaged with different stakeholders. On April 17, 2018, Southwest flight 1380 from New York to Dallas was involved in an accident where an engine exploded and a passenger died before an emergency landing in Philadelphia. Southwest leveraged the power of the social media to provide real-time information as more got to know about the accident. Linda Rutherford the chief communications officer and her team provided statements using facts and relayed relevant information, on the company’s progress where there was a brief statement and promised to provide more details. There was fast response and by letting a member of the management talk about the accident, the company showed it cared.
