Leadership, an important element in every successful program, is the ability to motivate and steer other people towards achievement of a goal. For one to be a great and effective leader, they need to have passion and love what they do. The interest that the leader has in the activity to be done enables them to make courageous and stern decisions aimed at making sure they achieve their objective. In most cases the leader bears the responsibility of the planning and execution of the project at hand while making sure that his subordinates are satisfied with the results. This means they are able to bring about change that is constructive, consult if need be, choose the appropriate procedures to be followed and maintain a sense of superiority all with the aim of maintaining the stability of the goal to be achieved. In reference to the army, leadership plays a very key role in the fields. The safety of the soldiers, the course of action to be taken as well as the success of the mission all lie in the decisions made by the leader. “Leaders aren’t born, they are made” a common saying in the society but the main aspect in the molding of a good and efficient leader. The purpose of this essay is leader development. The army develops a leader through training, education and counselling (Straus,2015).
For one to be eligible to join the army, they are required to at least be in high school or have taken a General Education Development test (GED).In some military branches the army offers its soldiers the chance to acquire knowledge from higher learning institutions. Moreover, there is army leadership training that enlisted soldiers go through as they climb up the ranks. This training Is offered through the Noncommissioned Officer Education System(NCOES).The system consist of well planned out levels of training where the soldiers get to improve their communication skills, tactical and technical skills, map reading and land navigation. They are trained well enough to lead a squad, platoon, company, battery or a troop. All this enables that the soldiers develop to become well knowledgeable leaders in their respective fields. This ensures that they have the necessary information to tackle different challenges that arise. The efficiency of a soldier to remain calm and provide a solution in the face of a challenge, proves that they can be dependable leaders.
It goes without saying that physicality is a major part of the army, soldiers undergo thorough training to ensure they remain fit to perform their duties effectively. Enlisted soldiers have a bootcamp where they go through different vigorous activities making sure that they have what it takes to serve their country to the best of their ability. This exercises test their strength and ability to endure and persevere hardships, qualities which will enable them to survive in the dangerous and trying situations they will face.
