Correlation Between the Active Vocabulary Size and Lexical Richness

Laufer & Nation, (1995, p.311) defined Lexical Frequency Profile, as “the relative proportion of words from different frequency levels”. There are various ways of assessing vocabulary knowledge and the text-based LFP ought to be considered when measuring the lexical frequency. The LFP tool excludes subjective judgment when evaluating the writing quality and is useful in measuring the vocabulary size, and the test represents language proficiency. The researchers found out that there was a correlation between the active vocabulary size and lexical richness suggesting that language vocabulary use improves the quality of writing.
