Unfortunately, the media--more specifically the major newspapers and news channels--have not been focusing on what really matters during this pandemic. If major newspapers and news channels were less focused on increasing audience numbers, they would do a better job at spreading news worth reading and supporting the community.
The discrimination toward certain groups that the pandemic generated over the last months is symptomatic of a larger issue in society.

On December 31, 2019, the World Health Organization reported cases of an unknown pneumonia kind of disease in the city of Wuhan, China. The virus infection has later been referred to as the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The condition is a virus that has symptoms ranging from the common cold and, in some cases, turns to be a severe disease of the breathing system (WHO, 2020). Creating awareness about the regulations that people should follow is one of the workable mechanisms that may come in handy in flattening the curve. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, media has played a significant role in ensuring that everyone is brought to the attention of what COVID-19 is since its first reported case, origin, and levels of impact from one region to the other. Therefore, the media’s role during the global pandemic phenomenon, which has seen criticism and commendation on different proportions of public opinion, is critical.
The outbreak of the COVID-19 has resulted in a devastating health crisis. The crisis has adversely changed the way society perceives things and how lifestyle has immensely changed due to the new norms adopted as a way of controlling the spread of the vice. These new standard precautionary measures, according to CDC (2020), include social distancing, wearing face masks, avoidance of crowded places, and proper sanitization of our hands.
