Concerning the 1968-69 Strike at San Francisco State College” by Whitson Helene, offers a detailed narrative on how black history shaped and continues to shape African American experience in the U.S. Delving into critical historical moments including the 1968-69 San Francisco State College (SFSC) strike, the articles highlight the historical aspect of such key historical moments, the pressing problems during the time including academic bureaucratic policies that reinforced the highly prevalent racism and discrimination against African Americans, the requirements of the striking student community at the time, and the outcome of the strikes including the establishment of the Departments of Black Studies and Ethnic Studies. Identification of Problem In the reading, the problem identified is majorly racism and the academic bureaucratic policies. With racism and academic bureaucratic policies on the rise, African studies emerged as early as 1890 to 1940 including The American Negro Academy founded in 1896 and The Philadelphia Negro by DuBois in 1899, among others, and which explored key topics such as African American economic development, health, higher education, among others.
