Comparing and Contrasting Coastal and Non-Coastal Areas
From the first-person point of view of a potential home buyer, compose a comparison-contrast essay based on the topic below (500-word minimum, 600-word maximum):
Topic: Compare and contrast living in a coastal city, for example the South Alabama area, to living in a city a few hundred miles away from the coast, for example the North Alabama area (close to Birmingham or Huntsville).
The geographical locations above do not have to be used, but the comparison-contrast areas (coastal city vs. a city a few hundred miles away from the coast) must be used. The word coast refers to the Gulf, Atlantic, or Pacific coastal areas.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The language in assignments that require writing from a specific point of view must conform to the “English Composition Checklist.” For example, a dirty rotten scoundrel would most likely use some unsavory language filled with inappropriate expletives, but when an English Composition student writes from the point of view of a dirty rotten scoundrel, the voice must be that of a dirty rotten scoundrel, but the writing (usage, grammar, language mechanics) must conform to and be suitable for the English Composition classroom language.
When an assignment specifies that an essay must be written from a particular point of view, the point of view must be clear throughout the essay, but particularly in the first and last paragraphs.

Use of quotations and research in this assignment is neither required nor assigned. Any quotation used will not be counted as part of the word count requirement.
Paragraph divisions provide transition, clarity, and organization to an essay. Since this is a fundamental English composition course, the best guidance that I can give for paragraph divisions in an essay of this length is to adhere to the standard, five-paragraph format: introductory paragraph, body (three supporting paragraphs), and a concluding paragraph.
