The violence meted out to women is a tenacious and universal human right problem that occurs in every social and cultural group. Research shows that one-third of all the women around the world have been at least coerced into sex, beaten, or otherwise abused in their lifetime, usually by a person close to them, such as a family member, co-worker, or employer. Further research indicates that gender-based is one of the most persistent, yet the least recognized form of abuse of human rights in the world (Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights, 2003). As a result, attention has been drawn to this seemingly unnoticeable vice to address this menace and prevent or reduce its impacts. Today, violence against women is universally referred to as gender-based violence since it partially emanates from the subordinate status of women in society. In this paper, we compare and contrast five different articles on gender-based violence on how they present their information, the images they use, how they are developed, as well as the type of resources used in their development.
Firstly, according to the journal: Gender-based violence among female youths in educational institutions of Sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis by Beyene, Chojenta, Roba, Melka, and Loxton (2019), violence against women is a critical public health problem. Beyene, Chojenta, Roba, Melka, and Loxton present their information in the form of research where the content is systematically entered in chronological order. Beyene, Chojenta, Roba, Melka, and Loxton studies with its main focus geared at trying to generate a general summary that estimates the prevalence of gender-based violence based on its different risk factors and types, particularly among female students in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Beyene, Chojenta, Roba, Melka, and Loxton offer extensive and well-researched information based on their study findings, as shown in their results. The authors depict a rich understanding of the issue of gender-based violence by clearly presenting their data and research finding in the discussion section where they ascertained that reports of abuse at home are highly characterized by gender-based violence in educational facilities (UNFPA, 2020). They further noted that most female students who reported having experienced instances of GBV at home were also at a relatively higher risk of witnessing emotional violence, physical and sexual abuse in the educational setting. The journal also provided an exhaustive conclusion and recommendations on future studies on GBV. Similarly, the article titled Gender-based violence by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) underscores Beyene, Chojenta, Roba, Melka, and Loxton’s claim that GBV against girls and women is one of the most rampant violations of human rights across the globe.
