Compare and Contrast Two Computer Programs
Computer programs refer to detailed plans or procedures used to solve a problem using a computer. In other words, they are ordered or explicit sequences of computational instructions essential to achieving a specific solution. Several computer programs such as Microsoft Windows, McAfee, Linux and Microsoft internet explorer (Golam & Ar, 2019). This paper will compare and contrast two computer programs, Windows and Linux. Studies indicate that Linus Torvalds established Linux in 1991, while Bill Gates released windows in 1985 (Odun-Ayo et al., 2021). Since then, the two operating systems have undergone several improvements. While there are various commonalities in them, they are also huge differences.
For instance, software availability in two programs is different in many ways. The primary difference is that Linux has a central place to find all the software and applications accessible to the user, while Windows does not have (Odun-Ayo et al., 2021). This means that in Linux, most distributions or builds have an application manager that recovers all the accessible information and software for that software that is obtainable to a user based on the parameters they have set. Moreover, the application manager in Linux allows the user to add or delete sources of applications known as repositories (Golam & Ar, 2019). Despite windows having the application manager as Linux, it works differently. For example, the application manager in windows only shows programs and updates recently installed on the system.
