Introduction
Committee meetings are a crucial part of a healthcare organization’s life for it acts as a means for members to collaborate, brainstorm, and reach decisions that would determine the fate of the organization. Mainly, one of the foremost importance of such meetings is also known as “shared governance,” which is a model that is “designed to integrate core values and beliefs that professional practice embraces, as a means of achieving quality care” (Anthony, 2004). However, shared governance does not only apply to healthcare organizations but in fact, can be utilized in a variety of different settings and contexts. In this article, the author would discuss how he was able to observe the model of shared governance within a committee meeting on a non-governmental organization regarding the planning of health missions for the year. It would include the specific interactions and decision-making processes utilized until its conclusion. All in all, the author of this article believes that by looking at the minute and specific interactions within an organization, one can have an idea about the effectiveness of an organization as a whole.
Shared Governance in a Committee Meeting
As stated earlier, the committee meeting that is in focus was one with regards to the planning of the annual missions of our local NGOs. It also tried to touch on a little about the budgeting for the fiscal year as well as the coordination activities that it is planning with other organizations, but the most of the meeting has been focused on the former.
