Choosing the best place or site for conducting negotiations can be a strong move; however, the move should not be a knee-jerk, default decision. In making informed choices of the venue, it is important to consider the nature of the negotiation, issues to be resolved or agreed upon, one's interests, the goals of the negotiation, and the parties involved. As a result, the place of negotiations should be a factor of reasoned as well as thoughtful consideration. An important theory to use during consideration of the venue is the Butterfly Effect Theory which stipulates that failure to identify minor issues at the preparation stage may result in inflated challenges later in the negotiations (Rainey, 2010).
