Introduction
Across the world, many children are obese or overweight and the number is continuing to increase. These children present high risks of growing to become overweight adults or adolescents. This places them at a risk of developing acute illnesses like diabetes as well as heart disease later in their lives. Also, they are more vulnerable to low self-esteem, sadness and stress. This essay presents the causes of obesity in children.
Causes of Childhood Obesity
Children become obese for several reasons. The ordinary ones are unhealthy eating behaviors, genetic factors, lack of physical activities, or a combination of these causes (Miller, Rosenbloom, & Silverstein, 2004). Rarely is obesity caused by medical conditions like hormonal imbalance. Physical exams together with blood tests can eliminate the possibility of medical conditions as causes for obesity.
