Heroine is a hard drug that is an extract of morphine. It is used in the hospitals as a sedative to relieve pain. In most cases this drug is abused by both the young and adults as the video Chasing the Dragon illustrates. From the video clip, it is shown that the drug can get into the body system via various means such as taking as a pill, direct injection into the blood stream or dissolved in juices and wines. The drug is an addictive one and once one gets used to it, it becomes almost impossible to stop as one of the witnesses argues in the video. During the early stages as one of the girls from the clip says one might take just one pill. With time, they start feeling like that one pill is not bringing about the effect that they desire. They end up increasing the number of pills up to levels that cannot be controlled. The drug takes control of oneself and one starts acting in weird ways depending on what the drug directs you to.
It’s high time we address the problem of drug abuse in a holistic manner. Drug abuse is increasingly becoming costly to the general economy rather than the individual economy of the abusers. The billions of money that we spend in rehabilitation centers could be focused on more useful programs. The main approach that we should take in fighting drug abuse is to seek to identify the sources of these drugs and close them before the drugs reach the market.
