Changes Involved in Puberty, As Well As The Changes in The Adolescent Brain
Puberty is a stage in one’s life when the body grows and changes as fast as it did during infancy. When one reaches puberty, the brain releases the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), signaling the start of adolescence (Smith, 2016). However, first, GnRH has to reach the pituitary gland. After this, the gland releases two more hormones, namely the luteinizing hormone (LH) and the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). These hormones are released in both girls and boys during adolescence. However, depending on the gender, the hormones settle on certain areas of the body. For boys, the hormones settle in the testes triggering the production of testosterone. In girls, the hormones settle in the ovaries, initiating estrogen production (Smith, 2016).
