Is capitalism the main reason for the unequal wealth gap in America? Capitalism, an economic system in which private company owners control a country's trade, has been one of the driving forces behind America’s economy for decades. There are different forms of capitalism that a country can adopt. Free market capitalism, welfare capitalism, and state capitalism are the main types adopted in developed countries. For the United States, it has a mixed economy where both the government and private companies play crucial roles in its economy. Capitalist advocates love selling the idea of freedom and equality; however, the product of this system is a significant wealth gap between the rich and the poor.

The top three men Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, and Warren Buffet, have combined fortune more than the bottom half of Americans. A fundamental principle of capitalism is that individuals get motivated by the profit incentive. The idea that if you work hard enough, you can own and have an enterprise of your own is an appealing prospect. Individuals are, therefore, willing to take risks with the hopes of a potential reward. However, the playing ground isn’t fair at all. Some individuals have it easier due to their family fortunes, which gives them a clear advantage when it comes to pursuing things in life.
