Wellness Assignment Name Institution Course Code and Title Instructor Date Wellness: Working with Different Clients Working with a diverse range of clients may trigger challenges which make our interaction difficult. However, employing key professional skills such as being empathetic and understanding may save me from a lot of heart ache. For instance, under the cultural influences category, it might be difficult to have a seamless therapeutic relationship with a client who fails to accept and align with their cultural heritage. Such a client may intentionally isolate themselves from their backgrounds, bringing confusion due to a haphazard cultural identity. To address this, I must consciously remind myself that everyone's journey with cultural identity is unique and valid, and focus solely on understanding their perspective rather than projecting my values. In terms of gender influences, I might struggle working with clients who hold extremely rigid gender role beliefs that I perceive as harmful or limiting. For example, a client who holds the belief that women shouldn't have particular jobs or men shouldn't feel emotions could elicit my personal opinion on gender equality. My resolution would be to work on being aware of how these beliefs protect or serve the client, without immediately confronting them, while slowly working on examining the influence of these beliefs on their satisfaction in life. Regarding sexual orientation, I might find it challenging to work with clients who express strong prejudices against LGBTQ+ individuals, especially if their views stem from unexamined beliefs rather than personal experiences.
