Perspective
The life of the Author has changed a lot from the time she was born till date. Through her Journey, Thi Bui has faced a lot of challenges, for example, she was born during the Vietnam War and their immigration to the United States to start a new life with her parents. Currently, she has achieved a lot and her works in literature are highly valued by many readers. Thi Bui was born in Vietnam three months before the war in Vietnam ended. She resettled in the United States in 1978 as part of the group of refugees from South Asia. Thi Bui is an illustrator of a children’s book referred to as “A Different Pond” an award-winning picture book by the poet called Bao Phi (Bui, 2018). She taught high school in New York City and she was also a founding teacher at Oakland International High School which is the first public high school in California for all the recent immigrants and English students. In 2017, one of the best books referred to as “The best we could do” was selected as the UCLA’s common book for 2017.
Thi Bui has also made other various best of 2017 books lists like the Bill Gates top five picks. Currently, Thi Bui is a tutor in the MFA in comics program at the California College of Arts (Bui, 2018). Thi resides in Berkeley with her son, her husband and her mother.
