Discussion 1: Best Practices in Interviewing. Assignment
Video had to be made audio to condense for this site, each video looks the same, person comes in and sits down across from the interviewer, main difference is in video one there is a cord attached to the recorder that the interviewee has to lift leg way up to step over, second video the cord is gone. Also, first video interviewer is looking at clipboard making notes most of the time whereas in video two is talking to her and making more eye contact. These were the main two main differences between the videos
Discussion 1: Best Practices in Interviewing
“Ordinary conversations are about sociability and maintaining a relationship, while interviews are more about making a relationship to help find an answer to a research question” (Rubin & Rubin, 2012, p. 99).
For this Discussion, you will view videos that depict different interviewing techniques. You will then analyze and evaluate the techniques used, and you will discuss how you will utilize best practices when you conduct your own interviews.
To prepare for this Discussion:
Review the two media segments on interviewing. As you view the videos, practice your observation skills by creating field notes for yourself. Be careful to distinguish between observation and interpretation as Dr. Crawford warns in the videos.
Consider the following questions for your post to evaluate the techniques used in each interview. Which practices could you use in your own interview? Which practices should you avoid? Where did the person in the video go wrong? How could this issue have been avoided or corrected?
Post a 2- to 3-paragraph evaluation of the interview techniques used in both interviews. Include commentary and analysis of best practices, practices to avoid, and how this viewing experience will inform your approach to the interviewing assignment introduced in this week’s Major Assignment.

Researchers use interviews to gain an in-depth understanding of the issues they are researching. An interview composes of a set of questions structured in a way that they promote a conversation between the interviewer and the respondents. Various practices facilitate a good interview, and this paper aims to highlight these practices as exhibited in the two interviews in the videos provide (Rubin & Rubin, 2011).
Interview one begins with the respondent having to lift a leg way up to avoid stepping on the cord attached to the recorder. Before they can settle down, the interviewer checks if the equipment is recording. That shows the interview’s unpreparedness at the time of the interview. The interviewer fails to inform the respondent all the information about the interview such the duration, if there was any recording, taking of notes, the topic, and duration. However she thanks the respondent for participating. The interviewer instead of asking the second question, she posts a statement instead “we’ve all had bad workplace” (Interview 2).
