Article Comparison: Audi tapes revealing the Murder of Jamal Khashoggi
On October 2018, Jamal Khashoggi, a US-based journalist, was murdered as he entered into Saudi Arabia’s consulate in Istanbul. The accounts of what transpired and the people involved in the murder of the journalist have sparked debate among various governments, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United States. Recently, BBC and Aljazeera reported that audio recordings during the final minutes of the journalist’s death. Both the articles have similarities and differences in how they portray the event as revealed in the tapes. This discussion seeks to comparatively analyze two articles in the description of the tapes for a better understanding of the audience and reveal the influence of biased reporting on a reader’s opinion.

Aljazeera provides a reconstructed video that reveals how Jamal was killed, while Corbin attaches images from CCTV cameras to back up the analysis. This indicates that both articles use direct quotations to back up their statements.

Aljazeera’s article focuses more on Mutreb and AI-Tubaigy as the main perpetrators in the killing of Jamal, rather than linking other top officials in the murder. This is evidenced by the article’s quote of Mutreb and Dr. AI-Tubaigy’s statements alone, and leaving out statements by Jamal, which tarnishes the names of the Saudi government. Furthermore, the statement “Saudi Au...
