HUMAN IQ 1 ARE WE SMARTER THAN OUR PARENTS By Name: Presented To Lecturer: Institution: Subject: Date: HUMAN IQ 2 Abstract Human intelligence is believed to be a score derived from a standardized test that expresses the score as a quotient between mental age and the chronological (physical) age. This score is commonly referred to as the Intelligence Quotient (IQ). Such factors as parental social status, ill health incidences and mortality and parental IQ have been shown to influence the children’s IQ score. Of debate is the influence of heredity on the IQ score. HUMAN IQ 3 According to the Flynn Effect, the average IQ score has been on the rise with each new decade for most populations at a constant figure. The Flynn Effect on IQ scores supports two explanations; that people are getting smarter and that people are getting more acquainted and exposed to the skills being measured on IQ tests. With the emergence of new technology and increased exposure to various skills at an early age, people tend to be exposed to a wider variety of skills. Since IQ tests measures performance in certain skills then it is expected that due to the increased and advanced exposure to these skills present generations will score highly compared to past generations. Therefore, the IQ scenario is that people are scoring highly due to the increased exposure to the skills being measured in IQ tests.
