Autism Disorder
Summary
Autism has been regarded for many years as a childhood disorder. However, this myth has been debunked as people continue to suffer from autism as they grow old (Howlin, 2021). Despite the research that has been done to understand autism, adults with the disorder are still facing significant challenges. One of the issues faced by people with autism is the belief that they cannot perform the same task as others (Howlin, 2021). Autism affects 1 in every 59 children in the United States (Stronach et al., 2018). Therefore, there is a high chance of knowing an individual, a colleague, a relative, or a friend with autism. However, despite this large number of people suffering from the disease, there is still a stigma associated with the condition (Stronach et al., 2018). The survey conducted to understand how people perceived individuals with autism showed that many people have some idea about the condition and do not hold any stigma.
