A storyteller is an individual who is exceptional at the spoken word as art and uses this skill to form and adapt stories that reach listeners’ minds and hearts. Moss (1990) records that Black writer storyteller emerged during the slave period as the Blacks were keen to recount with their African past. Henry W. Ravenel was the son of a plantation owner where they had close to 200 slaves. Ravenel was clever enough to recollect stories that were told by some of the old folks. This category of individuals would convey stories of the old country in Africa telling others that elephants were “as big as houses and snakes as big as a person’s body” (Moss, 1990).
