The next assignment is about water, floods and droughts. There is a local component (the Bronx and Yonkers), a national US component, which includes Texas and the northwest of the US as well as the northwest of Canada, and a global component, southwest Asia (Syria) and South Asia (India and Bangladesh).
Let's look at the impact of water on the people who live where water is present in marked abundance (floods) and in its marked absence (droughts). Let's look at the dangers to people from the presence and absence of water because of climate change and how these situations have affected these communities.
The assignment includes your reflections on parts of a video and articles, but not only them. Build on that and integrate what you learned previously by writing in sentences and paragraphs about the impact that floods and droughts have on people in all sorts of ways. With these resources, you should be able to answer these questions in an essay in 3 pages. However, do not number the questions and just answer them. That's not college work.

Floods
Floods are natural disasters characterized by water overflowing onto dry land. This can occur due to excessive rain, rapid snowmelt, storm surges from tropical cyclones or tsunamis, or failure of dams or levees. Floods can occur during any season but are more common in specific periods and regions. For example, floods are more common during the rainy season and spring. Moreover, floods can be linked to climate change and environmental issues. Climate change has an impact on the frequency and severity of flooding. Traditionally, warmer temperatures have been used as a prediction for rainfall. A rise in sea levels increases the effects of storms and coastal flooding. At the local level, environmental issues increase the likelihood of floods. For example, an urban area with a poor drainage system will experience flooding even with moderate rainfall. At the global level, floods significantly impact the environment (World Health Organization, 2024b). They can lead to the displacement of populations, loss of ecosystems, and degradation of land and water resources. Humanitarian services are needed to relocate individuals affected by floods and provide them with basic needs.
Floods have numerous effects on an individual, community and nation. First, lives are lost and properties destroyed. Heavy waters carry public infrastructure and individuals belonging to unknown destinations during flooding. Secondly, waterborne diseases are spread easily during flooding (Lynch & Shaman, 2023). Another impact is loss of agricultural productivity and business interruption. Displaced people must find newer ways of survival and provide for their families. Floods are occurring in many regions around the world due to various reasons. The United States has been a significant victim of floods for decades. Metropolitan New York City has experienced flooding due to heavy rainfall and inadequate drainage systems. Texas has recorded significant floods due to hurricanes and heavy rains (Washington Post, 2017). Monsoon floods are common in India and Bangladesh (The Christian Science Monitor, 2021). Pacific Northwest of the United States and Canada are prone to snow melt that causes heavy floods (Washington Post, 2021). To address these floods, governments should improve their drainage systems to manage floodwaters. Authorities should also enhance early warning and community preparedness in areas where flooding occurs due to natural causes.
