The prominence of the above topic rises from the fact that physicians are now more than ever before pointing a finger of blame towards lifestyle diseases. These illnesses, though preventable, are among the leading cause of death in the developed world. Majority of the lifestyle diseases have been linked to the level of intake of fat, cholesterol, proteins and vitamins. The problem that arose was the fact that very few individuals had the time to seek out individual food items that would be in tandem with a healthy lifestyle.
Food manufacturers took maximum advantage of this by offering ‘healthy foods`. Perhaps at the start, there were genuinely labeled food in food stores world-wide. The popularity of these products rose as the concept of healthy living tightened its grip on the population. Today majority of ‘healthy` foods in the market are labeled as fat-free, cholesterol free and lately organic products.
One example that makes this labeling bogus is the fact the cholesterol-free products are derived from plants. Only animal fats have cholesterol! The average buyer is duped into thinking the manufacturers performed some complicated scientific procedures to eliminate this often vilified compound.
