Essay Instructions:
The final exam involves answering two questions. First, you should choose question 1 or question 2. Please state clearly in your introduction which of the two questions you will answer. Answer questions thoroughly. That means answering every sub-topic in each question. Be sure to cite references. For example, quote a passage and then paraphrase it in your own words. In these two questions, you are responsible for stating claims and providing evidence that supports your claims. After you answer question 1 or 2, all students must answer question 3. Therefore, all students will answer a total of two essay questions for the final exam no later than 8/1, 11:59 PM. Students must submit the final exam and all outstanding work by 8/1, 11:59 PM. There are no exceptions. That may appear to be a severe statement; however, faculty have deadlines to adhere to for submitting grades; and I will leave for a vacation shortly and will be unavailable until the start of the Fall semester.
Make use of all the materials in the course. If you go to materials outside the course, only use sources found through the websites on the course syllabus or through the Gale environmental database.( Environmental Justice - Document - Gale In Context: Global Issues (cuny.edu)) No matter what your source, be sure to do in text citations to let me know what you are using. For example, if you are quoting an article by Lotstein, in the text of your answer, write (Lotstein, 2023). At the end of the question, cite each complete source you used in APA format.
You should not write more than 1-2 pages for each question. What does that mean? Try to say as much as you can in a limited space. Be aware that I do not respond kindly, with good grades, to fluff! What is fluff? There are a lot of words that say nothing or a word salad. Be sure every word counts for something or means something.

The contemporary world is battling with the impacts of the prolonged destruction of natural resources and the resultant effects of climate. Many countries currently support climate change efforts, and relevant policies have been implemented to regulate human activities that cause changes in weather patterns. The United Nations supports many environmental programs on all continents to support the resilience and sustainability of communities. Non-governmental organizations also support community initiatives to raise awareness of climate change. Knowledge of Geography is essential in adaptation to climate change because it focuses on the spatial distribution of natural and human resources. This paper will discuss how populations adapt to climate change and reflect on climate change activities in an identified local area.
Question 1: How People are Adapting or Planning to Adapt to Climate Change
Adaptation refers to adjusting practices, systems, and policies to minimize the bad effects of an issue and maximize its potential benefits. In the context of climate change, adaptations address the necessity to respond to the current and projected impacts of warming the planet. While mitigation efforts focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions to slow the pace of climate change, adaptation is about managing the risks and impacts already occurring or expected. Climate change activists have tracked weather changes for many decades, and it is evident that significant changes have occurred in weather patterns (Washington Post, 2017). Many adaptation strategies are tailored to specific climate vulnerabilities in particular areas. Climate change efforts in industrialized regions will differ from those in rural and urban areas. Urban areas like New York are focusing on upgrading their drainage systems and implementing better waste disposal strategies. Rural regions in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia prioritize better use of agricultural land to address food shortages and improve the living standards of their residents (Environmental Justice, 2023). Farmers are adopting climate-resilient crops, implementing water-efficient irrigation techniques, and using agroforestry to sustain agricultural productivity despite changing weather patterns.
Adaptation to climate change involves modifying behaviors, practices, and policies to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change. The goal to enhance resilience to climate hazards has its pros and cons.
