Statutory Rape
Statutory rape entails sexual relations that involve a person who is under the age of consent. Underage people cannot consent to have sex legally. As such, any type of sexual activity with minors is considered as violating the law. In most cases, the age of consent is between 16 and 18 years in many states, and anyone who has not attained this age cannot consent to engage in any form of sexual activity (Volokh, 2015). Besides, rape refers to non-consensual sexual intercourse that is committed through fear, threats, or force.
Distinctive states address sex with minors differently. For example, the age of consent in Alabama is 16 years. In Alabama, if someone aged 16 years and above engage in sexual intercourse with another person aged 12 years and below, it is considered as a first-degree statutory rape punished for between 10 and 99 years or life in prison (Norman-Eady, Reinhart, & Martino, 2003). In Arizona, the age of consent is 18 years. If someone over the age of 18 years engages in sexual intercourse with a minor aged 15 years and below, one is sentenced to 5 years in prison...
