Drug courts aim at rehabilitation and not punishment of drug offenders. Drug Courts treat addiction as complex problems that require a thorough approach and not as simple punishment for the offenders. These courts consider an evidenced-based judgment which caters for treatment, and counselling and helps to stop drug abuse and related criminal activities. Roman et al. (2020) suggest that the ultimate goals of drug courts comprise the long-term recovery, cessation of addiction, and rehabilitation of the patients by identifying the reason behind addiction and supplying the required means to stop it. By directly pursuing the causes of drug crime, the application of this method in policing helps to create a safe environment for the public and the community.
