The behavior of persons in groups varies according to the environment, psychological setting and the original behavior of the individuals. In all environments, the mindset of the individual plays a huge part on their behavior, even in isolation. Even in this case, when an individual is placed in a group setting, their behavior is modified by their original mindset. The groups are formed by the initial establishment of the psychological bond of the individuals, where their cohesion will cause attraction. After identifying each other, the individuals find their niches in the group- with their tasks, attitude and behavioral norms. The establishment of these distinctions will then pave the way for personal identity. The individual will showcase their identity to the group, and then create a social identity in line with the new grouping- and this is where the common behavior kicks in (Tajfel, 2010).
The information needed to address group issues will have to originate from within the group itself. The group generates roles during its formation, and the positions (of members) within the group will determine the issues and vices faced by the group. It would be essential to find out the prevalence of the issue at hand. The presence of the drug dealing peddlers, for example, would indicate the prevalence of the issue amongst a group of persons. The dynamics of the group will determine what characteristics are endorsed by the participants (Worthington & Berry, 2005). The number of persons undertaking a certain vice would be necessary to determine its extent.
It would also be substantial to know the actual perpetrators of the social vices. The planners of such issues as vandalism as an organized activity- such as graffiti could be found out by different methods. These include seeking out persons of goodwill amongst their group to come forward and report the persons carrying out the act. In the case of drug abuse, it is always advisable to use a safe platform- such as the reporting to the drug investigations department of the security office in the school. The concerned party would deal with the vice effectively.
Information surrounding the value of the vice to the persons practicing it would be useful, so as to eliminate the issue completely.
