North Country is a fictional story that documents a major successful sexual harassment case in the United States. In the case of Jensen vs. Eveleth Mines, we can see how a woman who has endured numerous abuses during her work as a miner reveals. The events in the film are believed to be influenced by real events. We can see how pervasive sexual harassment against women is within the workplace (Korzec, 2007). The effects of male domination over women are obvious throughout the film. The movie presents several types of sexual harassment. As we can see from the movie's events, the harassment results from gender prejudice and discrimination. North Country depicts two main types of harassment: a hostile work environment and quid pro quo.
The first type of harassment took place when there were demeaning and harassing statements within the work environment. This is seen when male workers within the company make a sexual statement against the opposite gender. In the film, we can see Bobby Sharp targeting Josey spreads false rumors that Josey tried to seduce him, which led to Josey's public shaming. Another type of sexual harassment is quid pro quo, which means "something for something." This is usually the actual demand for sexual favors to get a certain benefit or avoid punishment. In the movie, this occurs when Bobby sexually assaults Josey in the workplace.
