Imagine that you are a member of a team assigned by the police chief in your hometown to revise the organization's strategic communication plan. Your assignment is to utilize strategic approach that you have learned so far to develop your city's police department's strategic communication plan.
Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:
Outline the approach that you would use to conduct research and interpret the situational analysis for your hometown.
Determine the main goals and objectives of your proposed communication plan. Predict the target group of your communication plan.
Propose the general communication strategies of your proposed plan. Provide a rationale for your response.
Develop the first four (4) main steps of your city's police department's strategic communication plan. Provide a rationale for your response.
Use at least two (2) quality academic resources as references, such as journal articles, newspapers, magazines, and publications from law enforcement associations. Note: Wikipedia, blogs, and similar websites do not qualify as quality academic resources.
Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

Strategic communication plans are the living documents that frame out the different types of communication activities which encompass both internal and external communication. Furthermore, the documents elaborate on the priorities, resources to be allocated as well as the target audience besides ensuring proper allocation of assignments to the staffs. In addition, these communication plans are normally driven by the goals and objectives of enterprises and are well articulated in the enterprises' visions, values, and beliefs.
In order to successfully conduct a strategic communication plan in a hometown, a research should be conducted coupled with situational analysis to provide a deep understanding of the situation before implementing the plan. The best approach to conducting the research is through a survey based on deductive process. The deductive approach will begin with stating the problem basing on a theoretical foundation and a search for evidence followed by construction of the research questions and hypotheses. Then a research design is developed, and data is collected. Lastly, the results are interpreted and shared appropriately (Dietrich, 2014).
On a separate note, the conduction of situational analysis will involve an examination of factors that will affect the strategic communication plan besides providing an overview for the team to better understand such factors that will influence the strategy in the future. Consequently, an interpretation of the analysis will involve putting the information in perspective through comparison of the results with the expected outcome, management of the staffs and proper description of the plan’s experience based on its strength, and weaknesses. In addition, a proper recommendation will be detailed to ensure that the team members improve on the plan as well as document the recommendations for future reference (Patter, 2012).
Once a situational analysis is done, the team leaders for strategic communication plan should make recommendations for the actual strategic communication plan. Such recommendations should elaborate on the strategic summary which requires goal setting and objectives (Patter, 2012). The main goal for conducting strategic communication plan is to ensure an improvement of the relationship between the police department and the public within the hometown through enhancement of its reputation. Therefore, to successfully meet the goal, the laid out objectives for the implementation of the plan should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-saving. The team leader should ensure that the strategic communication plan targets the audience through the use of interpersonal communication, use of relevant media among others (Patter, 2012).
