Society is guided by values that seek to alienate the wrong from that which is right. Law enforcement officers ought to be guided by these same values to evade degrading the relationship with the others. Several strategies are at the disposal to help officers manoeuver successfully when faced with ethical dilemmas, and the success varies accordingly (Roufa, n.d.). Furthermore, there are some universal values familiar to every member of society that takes precedence with a law enforcement officer while striving to uphold ethics.
Officers can evade being subject to unethical behavior by applying either or all of the ethical decision-making tests available: critical thinking test, media test, and gut test (Roufa, n.d.).
