Introduction
The recent rise in the use of social media such as the likes of Facebook, twitter among others has led to increased interaction between individuals. It has also led to the increased meeting up of people who would otherwise never have met at all as well as allow communication between people who might have never communicated to each other or even new about the existence of each other were it not for the social sites.
The disadvantaging o using the social media is that is hard to tell who someone is actually talking to on the other side of the internet, it is also hard to tell if opinions in the interne should really count since most people may just post comments just to see how people react to it and not their honest compliments.
Key facts
It is important to note that public arena like the social media increasingly becomes a hindrance to employees work than it is a helping hand. This is because it takes up employees time and concentration to continuously upload comments, photos, messages, and other social information , Laura and Joseph (2008).
In addition it becomes a challenge for the employer to clearly distinguish between the employees private life from the public life. This is because social sites such as Facebook provide the option for uploading very personal information like marital status, date of birth, full names, the level of education, political orientation and religious beliefs.
Such information may expose an individual to uncertainties and risks that are known to them at the time for instance somebody`s thoughts may be easily known as they comment on political and religious issues. Similarly, somebody`s honest opinion may be misinterpreted or wrongly taken as the social platform provide a cold forum in which non-verbal cues cannot be read or seen. In addition once the information is on the public arena it is usually hard to control its flow.
It is also important to know the kind of people who are reviewing the work and the articles. This is because some of the sites may be for adults yet children may accidentally of mischeviously find themselves in these sites. Otherwise the social sites may lead to exploitation of young people or pose security challenges.
