For our first writing project, you are to create a presentation that could be used to explain the concept of a RAID array to a junior technician at your organization. You will have two components to this technical presentation.

Research RAID arrays and answer the following questions:

What is RAID and what are the different configurations? Make sure to include visual images on the configurations.

How can a RAID improve the security of your data? Which RAID levels improve security?

How can a RAID improve system performance? Which RAID levels improve performance?

What are the pros and cons of using a RAID array comprised of multiple hard disks, versus using a single SSD?

Would the type of system (workstation, server, laptop) change your opinion on whether or not to implement a RAID array? Make sure to address each type of system.

You are required to have an end with your citations of sources.

The Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) entails a way of storing similar data in distinctive places on solid-state drives (SSDs) or hard disks. Indeed, it increases data protection in case a drive fails, fault tolerance, faster throughput, and error correction (Gillis, Sullivan, & Posey, 2023). In particular, a RAID controller refers to a device used in abstraction between the physical disks and operating system (OS) to make disks appear as logical units. Duplexing or disk mirroring entails writing the same data to various disks. In addition, parity refers to a value that is used for data restoration from other disks if one fails. The following are different configurations of RAID:
RAID 0 – It has parity and no duplexing.

RAID 1 – Allows duplexing but there is no parity.

RAID 2 – it facilitates parity with no duplexing.

RAID 3 – It has a dedicated disk for parity storage and allows duplexing.

RAID 4 – It has enhances parity through large stripes and has low duplexing.

RAID 5 – It consists parity block-level striping and high duplexing.

RAID 6 – A parity scheme is usually distributed across disks and duplexing is allowed.

RAID 10 – It has high parity and duplexing, hence increased performance.

A RAID improves data security since it facilitates disk mirroring, which means that similar data is stored in multiple hard disks. As such, if a drive fails, other disks provide the needed information without increasing the server’s response time.
