I am a correctional officer and the best part of the job is interacting with inmates and trying to solve their problem. This is what I am passionate about. While my profession involves other duties such as supervising inmates, preventing disturbances, and enforcing rules, I also get the chance to engage the inmates. In this regard, the part of my professional experience that I am most passionate about is using my interpersonal skills to interact and solve inmates’ issues.
I consider myself a person of self-discipline and in my interactions with inmates, I try to emphasize the importance of staying disciplined within the prison walls and also outside in the larger community. I believe personal discipline is extremely important if one wants to lead a successful life. Life is filled with numerous distractions that often prevent us from achieving our personal goals. In my interactions with the inmates, I try to be as positive as much as I can, encouraging them to resist distractions and temptations. I believe that if one can control their feelings, their ability to overcome obstacles in life is greatly enhanced. I understand that for one to be disciplined, it takes time and practice.
