           The 2013 Target data breach is among the most significant SCADA security breaches in the U.S. The attack was initiated on 27th November 2013 and was discovered sixteen days later. While a forensic team mitigated it by 15th December 2013, the hacker had looted forty million credit and debit card information and seventy million customer data (Plachkinova & Maurer, 2018, pp.12). As the biggest cyber security attack on a retailer in the United States, it attracted immense worry, warnings, and lessons on data security.
According to Plachkinova and Maurer (2018, pp. 13-14), the hacker carried out the SCADA attack on Target by compromising Fazio Mechanical, a third-party vendor responsible for refrigeration.
