Transformation of American Society after WWII
American society transformed greatly after the Second World War. One major aspect of this transformation is known as suburbanization. Suburbanization can be defined as population shift whereby people decide to move from the highly congested urban areas to suburbs. The U.S. underwent suburbanization after the Second World War and this was a result of several factors. One such factor was the rise in the standards of living in the U.S. As the standards of living in the U.S. began to rise, it became incredibly expensive to live in the cities. So, people started to look for cheaper options, and these were areas that had not been previously considered as habitable. The second factor that made suburbanization possible was the growth of the automobile industry. Growth in this industry meant that it was possible for people to travel for longer distances and access their homes regardless of their proximity to the town centers. Another factor that made suburbanization possible was the availability of low-cost mortgages. This meant that people could own homes in areas they never would have deemed fit or plausible before.
The GI Bill is one of the monumental bills that helped change American society. This bill came as a result of the failure to assimilate the World War I veterans back into society. First of all, this bill sent more than 8 million World War II veterans to school. Veterans were gifted the ability to continue their education while receiving a stipend from the government. The second thing it did was guarantee them home loans. This, in turn, as already stated helped to ensure the growth of suburbanization...
