The Wounded Knee Massacre was a planned attack by troops of the U.S. Army against a small section of the Miniconjou Lakota. They used cannons and rifles during this attack and killed approximately 300 people with no distinction of men, women, or children (Roscigno, 2015). This incident occurred in December 1890, and it occurred during a disarmament campaign when an accidental gunshot caused misunderstanding among troops; as a result, the disarmament campaign turned into a massive attack. As a result of this gunshot, the soldiers of the campaign launched an overreaction by attacking the members of the indigenous community indiscriminately (Roscigno, 2015).
