During the second Great Awakening, Charles Finney preached on the essence of concerning being part of the Kingdom of God. He believed that people are destined to damnation, but had free will to choose damnation or salvation. He wrote the treatise to demonstrate how religion and liberty are linked. Finney wrote the document in 1836 and his primary aim was to present to the people of the period how God’s laws are interlinked with regimes, the bill of rights, and the national constitution (Finney, 1836).
