This genocide happened in 1994 when 800,000 Hutus and Tutsis died (Genocides, n.d.). Other individuals were raped, maimed, and others were left with traumatic experiences (Yale University, 2024). This genocide can explain how varying issues such as power, authority, groupthink, and evil philosophical nature can cause harm in society. Nietzsche’s ideas will help analyze how psychological and societal mechanisms are critical in genocide. For example, Nietzsche explains that the genocide resulted from the Rwandan leaders progressively using manipulation towards the resentment of the Tutsis. Nietzsche's perspective highlights the Tutsi's systematic dehumanization and societal success framing as the main threat since these people were oppressed, which made them seek revenge due to envy and hatred. This perspective, therefore, shows that these genocidal actions did not only result from power struggles but also additional deeper psychological frustrations. The Rwandan genocide matches the obedience to authority that the Milgram findings show.
