The use of the domino theory by the Vietnamese war was justified by the way NATO delt with Communism in southern Asia. The domino theory is a foreign policy which was developed during the 1950's and th 1980's by the government of the United States. Spencer (2001) in talking about the justification of the domino theory said that “simply put, the domino effect stated that if one Southeast Asian country fell to communism, then all of Southeast Asia would fall. And to that end, Eisenhower said, "the possible consequences of the loss of free countries in Southeast Asia are just incalculable to the free world." Many succeeding presidents used this term to justify their increasing involvement in Southeast Asia (45).
