The Evolution of Democracy in the Early Republic
The American republic experienced many different types of leadership, both from the republicans and the democrats. This was duly after the war in the year 1802 (Pasley, 2001). The different presidents who were in charge after this war had different beliefs on what good governance meant. Also, because those in power had the authority to appoint whoever they wished to, patronization was the idea that kept many of the presidents in power. They could manipulate and have people whom they could control in the cabinet rather than having spearheaded individuals that could not be handled.
Form of American Republic
Both Jefferson and Jackson were American presidents at different times. Over the time span that they ruled, they exercised a different kind of leadership given that Jackson was a Democrat while Jefferson was a Republican (Jeff and Rodney, 2005). Jefferson rule was that only the educated elites were to rule, through education was proposed to all so that even the poorer individuals could get elected to public office at a point in time. On the other, Jackson believed that any man had the capacity to hold any public office. Also, his ideas were based on the rotation of public office occupants. People had to switch offices either to lower rank positions and those in the lower ranks to higher ranks.
Erson (1939) argues that, when it comes to industrialization, different views were raised between these two presidents. This is because Jefferson viewed industrialization as a thief of the public money. This was so because he thought that a lot of investments was to be done in funding something that they were even not sure whether it was going to benefit the country in years to come. Jackson, on his side, saw industrialization as the only way out in making the American republic independent. He said that, ...
