Darwinism and Humanity
During Darwin's time, people believed that everything was in the same state because they were created by God. However, Charles Darwin was influenced by the field of economics and proposed a theory that was opposite to what people thought. Darwin was inspired by economic principles written by Thomas Malthus known as the essay on the principle of population Darwin was influenced by the theory of population growth (Coase, 2015).
According to Malthus, population growth would overpower food supply growth resulting to hunger, diseases, and struggle (Dean, 2015). Darwin figured out that people had to compete and had to be better equipped to survive. Since population, growth would overpower food supply, creating a perpetual state of struggle meaning there would be a constant struggle (Coase, 2015). This idea caught Darwin's attention, and he extended Malthus principle of population growth. It occurred to Darwin that both animals and plants would experience the pressure Malthus talked about. Darwin believed that the animals and humans would be forced to adapt to the ever-changing world whereby different species would not reproduce to fulfill their needs. People would be vulnerable to drought and hunger(Dean, 2015).
Species had to find ways to survive because the food supply was not infinite. Darwin concluded that the ongoing struggle exists between individual because people need to survive hence, the evolution of natural selection theory (Depew & Weber, 2017). Darwin believed the e population would grow and align with existing resources before stabilizing. Thomas Malthus population growth theory inspired and helped Darwin refine the natural selection theory stating that meaningful competition between members of the same species exists because everyone wants to sur...
