The 9/11 memorial and museum is located in New York city at the World Trade Center site where the Twin towers were located. The main aim of the memorial is commemorating the September 11, 2001 terror attacks that killed 2977 people and also the 1993 World Trade Center bombing that killed six people. A memorial was organized after the attack and destruction of the World Trade Center for the fatalities and those that took part in rescue processes. Construction work began in march of 2006 and on May 25, 2014, the museum was officially opened to the public. Between September 12, 2011 and may 25, 2014 was the interim operating period of the memorial museum.
The September 11, 2001 attacks were a sequence of harmonized terrorist attacks on United States by the Al-Qaeda. The attacks killed 2996 people and left over 6000 injured and also caused property and substructure damage of over $10 billion. Four passenger airliners which were operated by United Airlines and American Airlines passenger carriers were hijacked by 19 terrorists. Two of the four planes were crushed into the north and south towers of the world trade center complex in New York city. American airlines flight 11 into the northern tower and united airlines flight 175 into the southern tower. Inside one hour and 42 minutes, both towers collapsed resulting in partial or total collapse other structures in the world trade center complex.
The third plane, American Airlines Flight 77, was crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia partly collapsing the building's western wing. The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, was headed for Washington, D.C., but its passengers tried to overcome the hijackers. This therefore led to the plane being crashed into a field in Stony creek Township near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The 9/11 terror attack was the deadliest attack in the history of the united states. It was also the deadliest incident for firefighters and law enforcement officers in the history of the United States. It resulted in the death of 343 firefighters and 72 law enforcement officers.
The September 11, 2001 attacks are very important to the American politics since it shaped the way American people view the rest of the world. The was an immense act of aggression and provocation by Islamic radicals that drove the George W. Bush administration to pivot its foreign policy and begin a worldwide war on terror. The attacks emphasized the global implication of non-state actors and Islamic extremists. It made the country to pay attention to their way of life and the rage and hatred towards the united states that is profound in other parts of the world. The aftermath of the attacks demonstrated how the mobilization of United states power could easily undermine global peace and security. The war on terror promoted terrorism instead of reducing it since terrorist incidents increased.
American politics landscape changed in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks from just concentrating on domestic policies to prioritizing the foreign policy.
