When creating a training program for an adolescent, the most important training principle is progression. The progression principle is anchored on the need to ensure an adolescent records constant gain in training efforts to sustain tissue overload as well as trigger continuous adaptation to the training activity at hand (Kasper, 2019). According to the progression principle, the adolescent’s performance or fitness is expected to improve with training. In this way, it is recommended that the training variables (e.g., intensity, volume, frequency) be increased to trigger further adaptation.
