The pain and swelling are caused by tissue damage surrounding the broken ankle. Inflammation of the tissue around the fractured tibia has ensued, with the primary symptoms being pain and edema. She may anticipate relief from pain and swelling as the tissue heals and the inflammation subsides. (Leow et al., 2019).
b) What is the rationale for immobilizing the fractured bone?
The broken bone region should be immobilized since surgery will be performed to realign the fractured bone. If the broken extremity is moved again, the risk of fracture-dislocation, damage to the soft tissues around the bone, hemorrhage, compartment syndrome, and discomfort increases (Medscape, 2021).
