Pleural Friction Rub
A pleural friction rub is a disturbing sound usually triggered by the inflammation of the pleural tissues. The pleural tissues are situated around the lungs. The tissues act as a border between the lungs and the chest cavity (Adderley & Sharma, 2020). The pleural friction rub is heard and experienced every time the patient's chest walls move.
As a result of the pleural friction rub, the APRN recognizes the pericardium inflammation stirred by the underlying ailment, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) (Rodriguez et al., 2021). The inflammation causes the pericardial wall to roughen. Roughening of the pericardial wall contributes to the pleural friction rub (Kapoor & Mahadeshwar, 2020). The nurse recognizes that the sound is heard at the heart's apex and the sternal border at the left.
