In what way does your own culture influence the way you think and feel and act toward someone of another culture?
Culture refers to the beliefs, norms, and values upheld by a specific community or people. It influences the way people associate, learn, and behave. It also shapes individual personality and how we perceive people with different beliefs (Dumay & Dai, 2017). Culture affects my personality because personality is acquired through culture and not genetics. The norms and values form a structural basis for my behaviors and attitudes toward a particular society. It also affects aspects of cognition, emotions, and behaviors in diverse settings. There is a close relationship between self-construal, culture, and the brain. The concept of self-construal mediates variations in brain activity over distinct cultures by triggering a framework for several neural processes involved in emotion and cognition (Dumay & Dai, 2017). I can also quickly identify culture by examining what people eat, how they react to a particular stimulus and unfair practices.
