A Training Workshop for Manual Blood Pressure Cuffs
Introduction
Many hospitals rely on automatic or digital blood pressure tools to monitor patients’ blood pressure. An air pump automatically dilates the cuff on the individual’s upper arm to measure blood pressure. Nevertheless, nurses should be conversant in using manual equipment for measuring blood pressure to avoid inconveniences if the automatic tools are unavailable. This paper reviews a training program for improving nurses’ skills in operating manual blood pressure cuffs.
General Approach
Certified nursing assistants (CNAs) and registered nurses (RNs) can interact with a nurse expert in a training workshop to learn about applying manual blood pressure cuffs. The nurse expert will lead the training sessions to instill relevant skills in the trainees. The expert will also provide appropriate feedback and answer the trainees’ concerns. On the other hand, the CNAs and RNs will interact with the trainer to gain knowledge and skills in using the equipment. They will also act on the roles of nurses and patients to enhance their understanding and confidence in using the manual blood pressure cuffs. Practical examinations and simulations would reflect their knowledge and abilities to take blood pressure readings using manual equipment (Pagsibigan et al., 2017). Consequently, the practical session would help the participants learn to operate manual blood pressure tools to measure patients' blood pressure.
Learning Objectives
Objective: The learner should illustrate how to confidently operate manual blood pressure cuffs as the training program ends.
Objective: The learner must demonstrate their ability to measure blood pressure accurately using manual blood pressure cuffs.
Assessments
Formative Assessment
Implementing a training workshop at the facility will improve performance outcomes for nurses. The training workshop aims to enhance RNs' and CNAs' confidence and capabilities in operating manual blood pressure cuffs. After a training workshop for manual blood pressure cuffs, it is necessary to assess the RNs' and CNAs' confidence levels and competencies. Formative assessments examine participants' knowledge and skills by enhancing self-reflection on their progress to identify the deficient areas that require an upgrade (Arrogante et al., 2021). The debriefing aspect of formative assessment is appropriate and effective since it will enable self-reflection among the participants after the simulation practices. Consequently, the RNs and CNAs can identif...
