The different forms of Pranayama (regulated breathing) chosen for this particular discussion include abdominal breathing (Adhama Svasa), alternative nostril breathing (Nadi Shodhana), and Ujjayi (Serra, 2017). The differences between the Pranayama forms identified above are anchored on their definitions and the effort they take to master and do independently. Abdominal breathing is a breathing form that utilizes the diaphragm primarily. It causes contraction and expansion of different parts of the lungs in all directions and helps maintain optimum vital capacity. Alternative nostril breathing involves alternate nostrils and starts after forcefully exhaling from one nostril from which inhalation commences (Dhaniwala et al., 2020). It is essential in enhancing an individual’s overall health. Ujjayi is regulated breathing that helps warm the body and calm the mind. In this type of breathing exercise, a person inhales deeply and slightly contracts the throat to exhale the air via the nose (Dhaniwala et al., 2020).
