Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a lung parenchyma illness from other contacts outside healthcare facilities. Its severity worsens when individuals have other underlying conditions that complicate its management or trigger drug-drug interactions. As a result, managing a patient presenting with signs and symptoms indicative of comorbidities requires a specialized approach to treating CAP.
After a conclusive diagnosis of CAP, the healthcare options for treating the patient should follow the local resistance patterns. According to Sucher et al. (2020), if the patients’ characteristics and symptoms indicate that the treatment can continue outpatient, the healthcare providers should follow the guidelines of “the American Thoracic Society and the Infectious Diseases Society of America” regarding “the management of immunocompetent adults” (Sucher et al., 2020). The regulations indicate that any patients presenting with comorbidities should receive fluoroquinolone as the most appropriate antibiotic. This class represents a broader spectrum of moxifloxacin, Levofloxacin, or Gemifloxacin. In this context, the patient presented with shortness of breath (SOB), indicating comorbidity.
