Social media plays a significant role in the lives of nurses in both their professional and personal lives. Additionally, social media is now considered a mainstream part of the process for recruiting and hiring candidates. Inappropriate or unethical conduct on social media can create legal problems for nurses as well as the field of nursing.
Login to all social media sites in which you engage. Review your profile, pictures and posts. Based on the professional standards of nursing, identify items that would be considered unprofessional and potentially detrimental to your career and that negatively impact the reputation of the nursing field.

Describe the posts or conversations in which you have engaged that might be considered inappropriate based on the professional standards of nursing.

After analyzing my social media accounts, I comprehended that I had made multiple postings on my clients' problems to get expert comments from other nurses. Although, I have just disclosed their medical condition and not exposed their names. According to professional nursing norms, these posts may be deemed improper. According to Balestra (2018), social media posts that violate patient secrecy and confidentiality, such as identifying data or negative statements about patients, are unethical because they might be identified by any person who knows their personality. Therefore, regardless of whether the one posts the information with the most excellent intentions, such as seeking expert advice from coworkers concerning patient care, it is still not appropriate as per the nursing ethics.
Nurses must uphold standards of behavior commensurate with the nursing profession's rules in their personal lives and at work to protect the nursing profession's reputation and careers. According to Miller (2018), unprofessional information posted by nurses on social media might reflect negatively on individuals or their employers. In addition, the activity of nurses on social networking platforms is considered public. Thus, the material that nurses share directly reflects their overall professionalism and has the possibility to influence the public's perception of nurse practioner’s.
Inappropriate behavior may damage the image of nurses' e and how the people view the hospital environment. Furthermore, a healthcare provider may end up suffering adverse repercussions such as employment termnation, penalties, and license revocation (Selekman et al., 2019). In addition, several social media practices might be perceived as unprofessional. Infringement of patient confidentiality includes discriminatory or profane language, imagery of intoxication or sexual suggestiveness, and disrespectful remarks about an employer or patients.
A violation of HIPAA or inappropriate or unprofessional conduct if it compromises patient privacy or confidentiality may result in the loss of personal confidentially. HIPPA rules are violated when personal health information is made public, whether on purpose or by accident.
